A beer that doesn't hide its roots – yet still strikes fear and terror.

Scare the Mash is a joint creation of Gorilla Cervecería, Freigeist Bierkultur, and Totenhopfen Brauhaus, brewed at Vormann Brauerei in Hagen-Dahl. The focus is on an Adambier – the almost forgotten, originally top-fermented variety of Dortmund Altbier with a high original gravity, as it was brewed in Dortmund in the 19th century.

The three brewing collectives have breathed new life into this old style: robust, complex, and with a dark, almost hauntingly beautiful aroma that lives up to its name.

Taste Profile

On the nose, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and sweet dried fruits emerge, accompanied by a subtle acidity. On the palate, an intense, multi-layered body unfolds with spicy notes in the finish and a delicate hop bitterness that holds everything together.

Pairs perfectly with

  • Hearty meat dishes
  • Robust home-style cooking
  • Beer Tiramisu
  • Dark chocolate
  • Long autumn evenings
