Traditional Town Beer from Halle

Duivels Bier is the historic town beer of Halle in Belgium – closely tied to the town since the 19th century. According to legend, the name goes back to pilgrims who, astonished after tasting it, exclaimed that the devil himself must have had a hand in this beer.

Today, Duivels Bier is brewed by the renowned lambic brewery Boon, which continues the time-honored recipe as a top-fermented, dark ale. To this day, it remains part of Halle's carnival tradition, in which the town's residents traditionally receive the beer for free.
