VINUM – Lemke Berlin
Very British – with plenty of whiskey in the barrel
VINUM by Lemke Berlin is a mighty Barley Wine that gets its special depth from aging in former rye whiskey barrels. At a robust 13.5% ABV, it combines an intense, malt-focused beer character with the spicy and woody influences of the barrel.
The beer style has its roots in Great Britain: when French wine became scarce on the island about 200 years ago, the British brewed their ales stronger. The high alcohol content and partial barrel aging were reminiscent of wine – the Barley Wine was born.
VINUM consciously aligns itself with this British tradition. Instead of a dominant hop aroma, the powerful malt body takes center stage. Aging in a rye whiskey barrel adds spicy, warm, and woody notes.
An intense beer to be savored slowly – somewhere between a strong ale, barley wine, and a good glass of whiskey.
